The SoftMuseum Collection (internally known as "SPCM" for short) is an emulator that is currently being developed and maintained for this site, and which aims to accurately recreate many different personal computers from different time periods.
Latest release: SPCM Version 1.00 (PR100) (pre-release; built August 4th, 2015)
NOTES:
- Not currently self-hosting. Self-hosting is the term used for when a product is stable enough for its preceding versions to build its successors. In this case, the current SPCM binaries are a hex-edited and resource-edited version of the PCem binaries, with a completely new product name, updated dialog boxes, and a new executable name (SPCM.EXE) and renamed configuration file (SPCM.INI).
- Early version of PCE mode simulator available for IBM PC and PC/XT machines. Also available for 80186-based machines. Also includes the ability to simulate the DOSBox-SVN, PCem, and Anex86 emulators.
- Includes toolkit for building the SPCM binaries.
Version numbering scheme:
- The version number starts out with the first version ("100" for 1.00) and continues by each single digit from there.
- Upon starting work on the second version ("200" for 2.00), the current version number will first increment by 200 digits.
- Updates will continued to be made to the current version while each upcoming version is in development. For example, there may well be a version 1.01, version 1.10, and so on, before version 2.00 is released.
Known issues:
- Development of PS/2 emulation will start following the release of the next build of SPCM. During this time, we recommend using the IBM PC/AT (Model 5170) as a substitute for 80286-based IBM PS/2 models and the AMI386 as a substitute for 80386-based IBM PS/2 models until the next build becomes available.
Upcoming features:
- Self hosting binaries with source code compilations
- Support for emulation of the IBM PS/2 machines
- Expanded ROM collection
- MFM hard disk emulation (XTIDE currently used as a substitute until build with MFM disk controller emulation becomes available to test)
- Simulation of floppy disk and hard disk seek sounds
- Improved disk format support, including SCP, ImageDisk, Transcopy, and Kryoflux image support.
- Monochrome phosper simulation (White, Green, and Amber; currently available in DOSBox-SVN and PCemFX simulation modes)
This is the website of Dave Dunfield, with a large collection of older computers, mainly from the 8-bit era but also several 16-bit machines. Many of these machines ran an operating system from Digital Research called CP/M, or "Control Program for Microcomputers", which was designed for the Intel 8080 and Zilog Z80 processors.

-------- ATTENTION: READ HERE --------
The "ERA" system is an identifier for each topic describing what "era" (or time period) each topic of discussion is from. This is to allow people to search for topics as categorized by time period rather than simply by the time of when it was posted.
For example, when discussing a product from between October 1984 and April 1985, the identifier within the topic title should at the very least state the following:
- "(1984-1985)"
Preferably, the following is preferred here:
- "(02/27/1985)"/"(February 27th, 1985)"
More information will be posted here as this topic is updated.
